You know how I love postcards, I love to send them, and naturally I love to use my own photos for them. Up till now there were really 3 options for postcards, 2 really because prinintg them on your inkjet is really NOT a professional option. (1, It takes up your valuable time, and 2. the postcards you create usually look home made, in a bad way not a charming way!). Continue Reading
Face the facts
Normally I find Facebook to be a collosal time sink. Sure you can promote your business there, IF you know what you’re doing, but mostly you read about the daily goings on in your friends lives which can be very eye opening, but most of the time it’s not. We all have to realize that our lives are not a reality show!
However what a great surprise this week when I got a FB notification that an old friend from U of W found me on FB. Continue Reading
Old is new (again)
With infrared photography season pretty much closed for the next few months, I went searching through my files for new post processing techniques to share with you. yes, I want to share, but I also have to round our a few more lessons for the course at Pixels 2.1. (It might have been the wine but looks like there will be a photo trip to China in the next few months! Stay tuned)
Better HDR Photography
HDR (high dynamic range) photography has kinda run its course as a trend – I think the effect was so obvious that it lost its lustre pretty fast. I’ve heard so many people groan, “Oh no not another HDR image!” whenever they see the distinctive and obvious HDR look.
And I agree – to a point. HDR can be done with great effect, though, when it’s not totally overdone, like we see most of the time these days.
Here’s an example (of my kind of HDR):
Sunset of Sunrises
If you have always wanted to shoot fantastic sunrises, now has never been a better time.
Two reasons:
1) it’s still relatively warm in the morning – nothing that a nice cup of coffee or hot chocolate won’t fix!
2) Sunrise happens at a very civilized time (here in the north anyway) so even for the very “lazy” photographers among us, there is no pain in getting up at 6:00 to be shooting at 7:30.
In the next few weeks the temps will be dropping making early morning shooting rather unpleasant. So much for shooting the sunrise.
There have been a few gorgeous sunrises this week. So make a plan to shoot at least one autum sunrise in the next few days. Post your results on the site.
I”m doing ealy morning photography all weekend so Monday I’ll share mine with you.
Have an amazing weekend!
You’re Invited! Pixel2.1 Gallery and Studio
Pixel2.1: A new Gallery is opening in Winnipeg – it’s a bit of a new concept for Winnipeg photo enthusiasts and artists, a gallery, studio and educational space all in one.
The grand opening is on Wednesday November 6, 2010 and I’d love you to come by Pixel2.1 Gallery and Studio and see the space – the art photos, the studio and the rest of the instructors and gallery staff. It gets underway at 6:00 so you can drop in on the way home from work and have a drink, say Hi, and help us celebrate this new concept in the photographic experience. It goes till late. Bring your digital camera!

Hockey Night in Canada
My friend Jan from Scotiabank called me the other day. She needed some help. One of the hockey teams her branch sponsors was chosen to be the stars on Scotiabank Hockey Tonight Kids, the pre-game warmup show for Hockey Night in Canada, and she wanted me to shoot the event!
The Last of the Invisible Waves Goodbye
Despite the warm weather these past few weeks, the hot infrared sunlight is gone. I found this one image while preparing for the SAG conference – and thought I’d rework it with a new Photoshop post processing technique.
