My friend Jan from Scotiabank called me the other day. She needed some help. One of the hockey teams her branch sponsors was chosen to be the stars on Scotiabank Hockey Tonight Kids, the pre-game warmup show for Hockey Night in Canada, and she wanted me to shoot the event!
Happy Thanksgiving
It’s a hipstamatic holiday!
Feasting this weekend? With glorious weather and a humongous assortment of reasons to be thankful, I had the privilege of attending 2 fab functions to celebrate the season.
It’s not always a good idea to show up at these events with the gadget bag, tripod and assorted accoutrements of the photo trade, unless of course you have been asked to do so in exchange for payment of some form or other. 🙂
However I was a guest, and so had to show a little discretion with the photos. However, you know me, if there’s a “scene” I have to take advanage. Bu the iphone does take awesome images at least for the web, and this one was taken with a cool app called Hipstamatic.

Geotagging Your Favorite Photo Locations
More reasons to love the iphone and WordPress – they both support geotagging which means that if you’re using these tools, you can now record the location of your special photo site automatically and post them from your iPhone to your WordPress blog where they can be viewed on a map. New look, more stuff
I seem to like to “redecorate” quite often, but this time the blog redesign was more for functionality and ease of use for you, than just because the blog needed a bit of jazzing up. WordPress 3.0 offers such an easy platform for everything from slideshows to uploading images from your phone that I just couldn’t find the joy in writing on the old blog platform any longer. 🙁
I have so many new things to show you now, and new techniques to share but it was getting to be a bit of a chore to open up that old blog and get going… But problem solved – thanks to WordPress. Plus WP and my iPhone are also a super combo for getting you more innovative photography info online more often.
This first post on my new blog was made on my iPhone, photo upload and all!
The Not So Elusive Perfect Day
I was off to see a client in the wonderful little city of Morden, Manitoba bright and early this morning. First, tho I awoke in the darkness and perfect silence of 5 a.m, no birds singing yet, no crikets chirping, the coyotes WERE waking up with that eerie, throaty yipping. It’s a very spooky sound to hear a pack of them, just as skin tingling as wolves for sure! That was the first thing.
The second was the spectacular sun rise. Seen here from my yard as I was piling all my gear into the car.
The third was the rainbow about 20 minutes later, after a pre-dawn shower. Can you imagine – a rainbow before the sun has cleared the horizon!?
The fourth, a great visit with wonderful clients – hugs all around!!! (sorry no photo)
The fifth, three, count ’em – three, pileated woodpeckers in a tree. Now this is a crap*y photo for sure, but I have never seen this before and it amazed me.
Pretty good day so far, eh?
Wait there’s more…
Temperature reached 30 degrees celcius – I LOVE it. After 3 years of miserable summer weather, this little heatwave is a gift.
11:00 pm – dark again, nice and warm outside still, and it’s the Perseid meteor shower – sometime this week, not sure when the peak is, but the late night dog walk was a chance to see a handfull of falling stars. awesome in the true sense of the word.
And now it’s past midnight so the day is officially over and nothing happened or didn’t happen to change this perfect day.
Have a perfect weekend.
Slow Turning
The Winnipeg Folk Festival – that Woodstock-like pagan-ish 5 days of music and barefeet, beads and dreadlocks! I’m not a true fan of the event, but excellent musicians frequently play the festival, and summer outdoor concerts are just such a complete sensory immersion who could not love it. I’ve been quite a few times to see my favorite artists play there.
Last year you might remember, Elvis Costello was the main event, and I got some great shots of him, looking right at me
This year it was John Hiatt. If you don’t know about John Hiatt, you should. What a life – recovered from alcoholism, and cocaine addiction, and writes the most remarkable music. His “breakthrough album” was Bring the Family, but he had many more before this too.
Here he is singing one of my favs – Have a Little Faith in Me…
