Despite the winter cold it forshadows, Autumn is really a beautiful time of year. Most people would associate the New England states with the most gorious fall colours of all, but right here in Manitoba we do ok too!Continue Reading
Weekend Warriors
All right, it’s Friday and looks like Patio Season is over (at least for now). So now that you have some spare time on your hands, here’s a little weekend assignment for you warriors. It’s the worms eye view exercise, should you choose to accept it. And it’s not impossible at all.
All you need to do is identify 10 cool things to shoot this weekend, but shoot them on your belly. You’ll have to either point your camera skyward, find something interesting from the macro perspective, or otherwise find a cool way to shoot your subject from this strange angle. Try a variety of lenses. I’ll post my results here on Monday. Post yours here. We can compare notes!
You’ll be surprised at your results.
Have a good weekend regardless of the angle you’re seeing the world from.
ciao.
Geotagging Your Favorite Photo Locations
More reasons to love the iphone and WordPress – they both support geotagging which means that if you’re using these tools, you can now record the location of your special photo site automatically and post them from your iPhone to your WordPress blog where they can be viewed on a map. Summer Night Sky
Vacation time – the best time to stay up till dawn being mesmerized by the night sky! The moon timelapse series was just the start.
All week I have been up till 3:00 shooting the night sky. With the moonrise occurring very late it’s perfect for photographing the Milky Way.Continue Reading
Sometimes I hate Nikon!
99% of the time I am a total Nikon fan…but this week, I am hating them.
Here’s why. As a former 35mm shooter of transparencies (slide film) I have thousands of film images the get digitized whenever I have time or the need arises. By far the tool for scanning that has the best combination of quality and price is the Nikon CoolscanV ED slide scanner. I bought mine years ago for around $1000 US, maybe a bit more. It is one of the most anti-obsolescent camera products I will ever own. Or so I thought…
Stormy Weather
The prairies have their share of wild weather in the hot months of July and August.
This storm fortunately blew over and didn’t amount to much.
Time Lapse Night Sky Test
The Nikon D300 comes with a built-in intervalometer for taking images at regular intervals according to you predefined exposure and interval settings.
I’ve been playing around with this and finally got a pretty cool (yet not perfect) time lapse photo of the full moon and Mars? as they arc accross the night sky. I did add bit of “music” just for fun! (The Aliens enjoy it.)
New look, more stuff
I seem to like to “redecorate” quite often, but this time the blog redesign was more for functionality and ease of use for you, than just because the blog needed a bit of jazzing up. WordPress 3.0 offers such an easy platform for everything from slideshows to uploading images from your phone that I just couldn’t find the joy in writing on the old blog platform any longer. 🙁
I have so many new things to show you now, and new techniques to share but it was getting to be a bit of a chore to open up that old blog and get going… But problem solved – thanks to WordPress. Plus WP and my iPhone are also a super combo for getting you more innovative photography info online more often.
This first post on my new blog was made on my iPhone, photo upload and all!
