The shortest day of the year – finally. Although we won’t notice much of a difference, the days will start getting longer and the sun will start to warm up the frozen world (here at least).
And with that, it’s Christmas.
I have made many trips around the sun, and Christmas is one of those times if year that makes milestones and markers in our lives. Personal and family events are often noted in context of “that Christmas when…” And I think because of the big family connection/re-connection that Christmas brings there are many traditions and rituals that sprout up at the holiday gatherings.
While “Festivus” traditions seem to be carved in stone (one of the many feats of strength?!) most family Christmas traditions seem to change and morph with the times. New people are welcomed into the family, some depart, the family grows, we get older, and children and grandbabies join the fun. A good friend of mine recently became a grandparent, the first grand child in her family, and first in this group of friends. It’s quite a thing to have a baby in your circle at Christmas!!!
How things change!
But what’s constant for me is gratitude, thanks, reflection, a re-committment to embody the spirit of Christmas all year round, and a week hence, a deep dive into preparation for the next round trip (approx 265 days!).
I have blabbed on too much… I wish you and your dear ones a warm and memorable Christmas, with all the best the season has to offer.
PEACE ON EARTH
