…and there are far more than 50 shades of grey. With all the insanity that transpired in the US this week I was seriously NOT inspired. But I was keenly interested in the use of photos and the invitation of the authorities to send all and any images to them to aid in the investigation and identification of possible suspects in the Boston Marathon bombings.
In the old spaghetti westerns, the good guys wore a white hat and the bad guys wore black. Don’t they know that?
Did Suspect #2 really think that he wouldn’t be easily identified with the white baseball cap, worn backwards no less? And suspect #1 in a black hat? Interesting…
And so I got thinking about black and white. Good and bad. All the meanings and symbolism of these colours. And the use of our descriptive language, – “it’s not black and white.” It’s true. Nothing is simply “black and white.” In fact it is complicated – always is and always has been.
But I digress… let’s talk about photography again, black and white photography is not simple either, but far less disturbing than pondering the colour of people’s hats. And so my thoughts came full circle, and on a drive down the back roads I discovered an oddball building that was screaming to be captured – in black and white.
