It was an easy hike. around a glacial lake shore, through a wildflower meadow, and along the bed of a rushing creek. But once I rounded that bend, what i saw was not what I expected.
Finally sun!
The helicopter dropped us off on the snowcovered glacier, and we hiked up to the top of the cliff. Took a few shots of the view, and some panos with the 10.5 mm lens. The we scrambled down a boulder field to the “lake” which was quite a scene given that the boulders were the size of cars!
After reaching the base, we had lunch and enjoyed the view and the camaraderie. All the while our helicopter waited above on the snowpack.
The trick came in the hike back up there. Back through the boulders, a scree slope made soft and mushy and unstable due to the 3 rainy days previously! Got to the top of the snowpack and then skiied down to the heli. Not literally skiied of course, but being from Manitoba I know how to make light work of a snow hill!!!
These images are the ones I shot with my phone, once I get home and process the others I’ll post a gallery.
What do you think – was the scree scramble worth it?
