Back in June, I was staffing the VIP tent at the Winnipeg Humane Society’s Paws In Motion fundraiser. I entered a draw for a very special evening where the grand prize was a Gourmet diner for 6 cooked right in my own kitchen by the Executive Chef from the Fairmont Winnipeg. And to my complete surprise I got an email a few days later letting me know I had won!
So this weekend was it. Chef Eraj and his apprentice, also named Alex made the trek out to the boonies to cook for me and my friends.
OMG! You have never had a meal like this. The food was all envisioned by Eraj, who conceived of the dishes, and then had the ingredients grown at a local farm that has partnered with the hotel to grow organic, local and heirloom varieties of herbs, veggies, etc. to be used as ingredients in his food creations at the hotel.
From fresh- baked bread, and snacks to a multi-layered pop-corn soup to the pesto encrusted Manitoba grown beef tenderloin, and then desert, you’ve never seen such a feast. The brought all their cooking stuff, all the plates and napkins, cutlery – the whole kitchen it seems was packed in their van.
When they left, there was not a dirty dish to be found. Culinary ninjas they are.
A splendid evening and all for a good cause. Woof!
