Yikes! Busy like crazy, with a few minor disasters to deal with at the same time – from a mystery waterfall through the basement ceiling at my studio, to the usual computer nonsense, but Sunday June 21 was three three three days in one, extra busy extra fun!First it’s the solstice – the fist day of summer and the longest day of the year, at least around here. For my friends is the southern hemisphere it’s good news for you, too. Winter is over and the longer days are returning. I am of mixed opinions about the solstice – yes it’s now officially summer, but it also means the days are getting shorter now, and before we realize it winter will be upon us. Phoenix here I come?!
Second, it was the annual Winnipeg Humane Society Paws in Motion fundraiser event. This year we were competing for attendance with the Manitoba marathon, which some how managed to be on the same day. PIM is a delightful day filled with dogs as owners bring their pups out to walk to raise fund for the WHS. This year I was at the new VIP tent – which seemed to be a hit. A harmonic convergence of dogs is always a good thing.
And last but not least it is father’s day. Father’s day is now a lot more meaningful for me because it was the week of father’s day that I last spent “quality time” with my dad. I spent a week in BC with him in 2013, just me and him. We had a great time, despite our grief and his yet-undiagnosed illness which was causing him all sorts of misery. We hiked up in the hills, looked at some land that was for sale, had father’s day brunch, and watched some golf. We reminisced about my mom; and looked through piles of photos my mom had taken during their early years in BC. It was a really good week, and the last time I had a “normal” conversation with my dad before he unexpectedly died 4a few weeks later.
It’s really too long a story, some of it is written elsewhere on this blog – but it is those 7 days that I still l treasure the most, especially that last Father’s Day. I miss him like it all happened yesterday.
