Yesterday was Remembrance Day, it’s not a holiday but it is a day off for most of us. So I had some time to take care of some chores that I had been putting off for a long time.
Last year I brought back a trailer load of my parents’ stuff back from BC. Over the weekend I decided to throw out some of my old stuff to make room for theirs. As I removed some old books from my bookshelf to get them ready for the used book shop, one somehow flipped open. There, tucked between the pages was a folded up note from a long time ago.
It read:
Absence extinguishes small passions and increases great ones, as the wind blows out a candle, and blows in a fire.
It’s worth remembering.
