Photography is a tough business. It’s pretty easy to get all the requisite equipment, get a free website, and $9.00 business cards from the UPS store, in a few days you could be all set up to be a photographer.
Basically there are no barriers to entry, low amounts of capital are needed making this one of the “low bar” businesses for anyone who desires to work from home and for only a couple of days a week – think weddings! So competition is generally fierce if weddings are your thing.
And when you can find a photog on Kijiji for a few hundred dollars, you realize the profession has been commoditized beyond repair.
Being an art photographer is orders of magnitude more difficult. At least most everyone will need a wedding photographer sooner or later. Decor photos? Hmmmmmm.
You have to be different and have a niche
So…I am quite anxious to launch my new business venture, which offers a most unique and highly value added service (serial entrepreneur, that i seem to have become). The first stage of my training is complete. More certification to come. But I have to say I am really looking forward to my new adventure. Stay tuned for the deets as they unfold. I don’t want to jinx anything by saying more. But the launch will be soon!
Enjoy the weekend, ABC, and hug your dog.
