There are 4 sounds out here in the sticks, wen you know it’s Spring. The frog chorus chirping their hearts out; sandhill cranes trumpeting as they circle high close to the edge of the clouds; the grouse drumming like Charlie Watts deep in the undergrowth, probably miles away; and the spooky, freaky sound of the nighthawks as the do their evening dance in the sky.
And so last night it was. I took my big Rottie boy out around half past sunset, and it was glorious. Enfolded high in that darkening blanket of the sky were what seemed like a troop of nighthawks, commandeering my yard for gathering liken o other.
The “whohohohohoh”, in that peculiar scale gave me goosebumps. And like the song goes, “I can feel it coming round again, like a rolling thunder chasing the wind, I can feel it.”
And it feels great!
And so armed with that positive injection, I am off the PPOC convention in downtown Winnipeg, today I am attending the Judging Clinic – where I hope to become an Image Salon Judge 🙂
I wish you an amazing spring weekend and a visit from the nighthawks.
