After all these years vising my parents out here in BC, I’m finally starting to meet their friends and neighbours. When something bad is going on, this little community so absolutely pulls together. In a matter of 2 days everyone has called and offered their thoughts, and is checking in asking about my dad and offering all kinds of help – even though I am essentially a stranger in “town.” Despite the fact that my dad was the quiet one in the couple, and preferred a more one-on-one style of socialization, all the neighbours here were desperately worried about him in the weeks and months following my mom’s death in March. Despite their best efforts his despondency persisted. No one including him knew how physically sick he was.
So, I am here with him, spending the days in his hospice room, reading, talking hoping he can hear. I stumbled upon this in my travels through the web. You may have seen it before but I think it’s worth sharing again. Thank you my friend. It says it all, especially now. 🙂
