Is there anything more heart wrenching that seeing your dear ones get old? I was hit with the obvious in September when for the first time, my parents looked like “old people.”Much frailer even than in the spring when I had seen them last, and both of them coming to grips with the inevitable.
And now my old dog is also sick again. And too for the first time, I am not doubtful about how this will end. He is an old boy now.
His cocktail this time is 5 meds and a few natural supplements. He bounced back from 2 serious illnesses in the last year – I hope he has one more bounce in him -cos I’m not ready yet.
I remember many years ago now, my dad searching to find a CD of an old Scottish folk song for my mother. The song was “When You and I were Young Maggie” (My mom’s nickname). I wasn’t really thinking about anything traumatic, but I realized the other day, that I was humming the catchy baleful tune, substituting Buzzy for Maggie!
It’s more of a tearjerker than Danny Boy if you ask me.
Grab a Kleenex and sing along. When you and I were young..on youtube – not my favorite rendition, which I can’t find online but you’ll still get it!
