I’m heading to the Rockies for one last photo adventure before the end of the summer season. The end of the season is a great time as the crowds are gone and most of the popular hangouts are close to empty! I’m not sure of the exact itinerary yet, but naturally I will end up in the Okanagan :-). This little place caught my eye last time I was out that way
I love these old places, they are amazing photographic subjects, as well as provoking that curiosity we all have about the past, and ‘who” lived there. I’ve done a bit of old barn and house exploring this summer and I have a new series of images depicting the abandoned old buildings of western Canada.
There’s a certain craft in photographic old buildings, to make a dramatic point (no this one isn’t shot like that), from choosing the correct lens, to waiting patiently for the right weather and lighting. It will be the subject of my next book!
This one in particular is charming, tucked away in a hidden valley ghost town in eastern BC. I was last there in June 2007 but I hear it’s on the market again! It will be worth checking out, prices have fallen a lo tin this part of BC.
If you’re into old houses, check out this site, you won’t believe that in the US you can find Victorian treasures, 100+ years old, in great shape for under $100,000! Hmmm, maybe I should make a detour down to Idaho or Oregon…!
I’m off to plan my trip!!!
