One of the most enticing aspects of being self-employed is the boundless nature of the experiences you have and the opportunities that “come your way.”When I think about the reasons why I put up with some of the less than glorious bits of this adventure, it’s definitely having the options to select what projects I take on, and which to pass on. The obvious benefits of having the freedom to delve into my own projects as well is a nice benefit, although the reward is often much more long term.
For the past 2 weeks, I was back at an elementary school in the inner city, working with kids to learn photography as a way for them to learn about math. Now before you choke on your coffee (because you know what a math genius I am – LOL!), it was pretty cool stuff because photography lends itself so well to the types of “math” the kids were learning.
It’s all part of basic creative photography – looking for shapes, patterns, colours, and the ever in demand skill of “learning to see.” As a condensed program, 4 classes a day for 2 weeks, it was a bit gruellng but the results I saw were quite phenomenal!
As with all workshops this gig was super fun and I’m looking forward to the next one. I’ve gotta get some of the better shots out of my phone and up here for you to see. Kids and cameras – a winning combo!!!
