The long weekend was a typical one – rainy and cloudy. I think there’s only been one long weekend with perfect weather that I can remember and that was last year!
So my shooting schedule was quite off track. Besides getting my bike ready for riding, I did manage to get some photography into the 4 days. But those white skies and clouds don’t make for very dramatic or engaging images. It was generally a disappointing weekend for photography. I do know a trick to remedy this however.
I know you’ve been confronted with the dreaded white skies before, too. Overcast, and grey, flat light, and hard to expose for anything without some effort, and usually all the set up is not really worth it when you see your final image! In these kinds of lighting images just look blah!! But with a few keystrokes you can solve everything.
Here’s a shot of the deadly boring white skies, as shot – BEFORE:
Here’s the final worked image (3 clicks and a bit of vignetting):
Where did that dramatic sky come from?! It’s all there hidden in the file. With the creative use of the Topaz Plugins and one 2 other tools, the Blah, flat and boring prairie snot is transformed into a moody and more powerful storytelling image., but bringing out the hidden tones in that otherwise boring sky. Come to the Pixels Exhibition, where I’ll be demonstrating these tools and techniques, and more!
