Typographic portraits. Yes, portraits! I know what you’re thinking – but occasionally there are people in my photos, although not usually in the normal sense.
A while back I noticed a photo album on my book shelf and thought it looked quite interesting – I’m not sure why I didn’t pay it much attention before – I think it was a gift that got put away for “future use” but ended up hidden behind a bunch of books…Any way this is the album…What’s really wild about it is the words are carved into the thick wood cover. I loved the fonts and the contrast with the script and block letters. And what it says…
Remember this moment? The memory brings a smile to my face. I recall the exact feeling. Pictures we will treasure together, a moment carved in time. Those were the days. Always know as the years go by the great moment will last forever.
The perfect sentiment for most of our photos, I think!
Now back to that portrait…I think I’ve mentioned before that I do have a few informal “portraits” in my collection, from back when I was learning photography. But these old pics are really the only “people” photos I have.
I’d seen a few tutorials on the Web about this technique using fonts to create a portrait, and when I saw the old album cover, I was motivated to try it for myself .
