The one thing about Christmas that has lingered throughout the years are the lights! When we were kids my parents would take us on a drive on Christmas eve cruising through the “rich” neighbourhoods to look at all the Christmas lights adorning the homes…
It was magical! Then last year I was doing some research online for the “bokeh” section of my new course and I found a website for (yes this is the real name!) The Bokeh Masters Kit! it’s like a filter that you add to you lens to create very creative background blurs (a loose definition of bokeh).
It’s all so simple to use, and with a little bit of practice you can add a new dimension to your photos if they have lots of light highlights and blur in the background. It works best with a handful of lenses, the Nikon 50mm f 1.8 is one of the recommended ones, which I used to make this photo of my sister’s tree. It had normal Christmas lights on it and the Bokeh MastersKit turned them into stars!
See if your lens is suitable for the Bokeh MastersKit:
- Nikon 50mm F/1.8, Canon 50mm F/1.8
- Nikon 50mm F/1.4, Canon 50mm F/1.4
- Nikon 85mm F/1.8, Canon 85mm F/1.8
- Nikon 28-105mm F/3.5-F/4.5
- Kit Zooms: Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6, Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6
- Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM
- With vignetting: Sigma 30mm F/1.4
The filters conveniently attach to your lens with a simple rubber band and along with some standard shapes ( I love the dog paw), you also get a whole bunch of “blank” ones so you can create your own designs!
Right now you can also get the Premium Bokeh Masters Kit for the same price as the regular one, giveing you a bunch more designs plus the blanks for free.
