You know how I love postcards, I love to send them, and naturally I love to use my own photos for them. Up till now there were really 3 options for postcards, 2 really because prinintg them on your inkjet is really NOT a professional option. (1, It takes up your valuable time, and 2. the postcards you create usually look home made, in a bad way not a charming way!).
The first way is to use the templates on my main site to create your own postcards with your own photos, and send them to a printer to get made, which is great now that there are lots of short run digital printers around. But you get a big box of the same card and you may end up with lots of un sent cards!
The other option is a bit better but more complicated. Send out Cards automates sending cards and you can program it to be an auto responder to automatically send cards on birthdays etc. But the set up requires a day of dedicated time and if you are going to use your own photos to make your cards, you’ll probably need a weekend to get it all organised.
But now there is a great very promising iPhone app that I am going to be testing. Called simply postcards it lets you send a REAL postcard in the mail with your photo to up to eight of your contacts – right from your phone. You can also send email cards too.
I could have used this this summer when I went to visit a client who was retiring and had sold her business. I did have my camera with me and I thought about getting a shot of her building to use as a send out cards card. But that would have taken a few hours to process the image, create the custom card, and I just didn’t have the time at that time. Now if I had had this app, I could have taken that photo, written a heartfelt note thanking her for allowing me to be part of her business for so many years and wish her well on her retirement. And send her a real postcard card with a photo of her shop. THAT would probably be a card that she would never throw away. And it would all have taken all of 2 minutes, tops!
So I am very eager to try this new app out. I have the app on my phone now and I have some time to play with it, (as soon as our mini blizzard is over.)
So check it out, Simply Postcards. If you want to be a recipient of one of these trial postcards let me know. 🙂 email me here.
I’ll post the digital versions here as well as let you know how it all works out. I’m hoping this could be the killer photographer app!
