Holiday High Gear!

Capturing holiday memories! There’s not much that a good camera can’t record these days! From the kids opening their gifts, to the celestial events in the winter sky, modern DSLRs can handle it all.

I was looking through some old boxes I retrieved from my parents, and looking at the old slides of Christmases past was a trip! They had great Christmas Eve dinners, and there was always more than one camera to record the festivities! Lots of photos. Lots of slides – so old skool!! Upcoming Classes for 2011

The new year is just around the corner – which today astiunds me more than anything. Wasn’t it just the height of summer!?

I’m in the process of finalizing some photography courses for 2011, in conjunction with Pixels 2.1 Gallery.

On the list so far:

1) a 4 week digital infrared shooting and post processing course. For people with Infrared capable cameras*

2) Extreme photomanipulation, for people pretty good with Photoshop already. It’s not Photoshop training program as such – you need to know how to use it, I’ll just show you how to ramp it up several big notches! This is an advanced program. 6 weeks in duration.

3) Hyper Macro Photography. Getting into those secret worlds hidden in plain view, in plants, dirt, everyday objects and more. You must have a DSLR and a macro lens for this one. A 4 week program.

Contact me for more info, but I will also be adding news as we finalize the details.

Space is limited. You know Pixels is a smaller space so there’s not a huge amount of room. So it will be a good idea to register as soon as the course opens.

Also in 2011, we’re planning the ever in-demand IR Bootcamp. – one weekend of intense photography training. If you’ve signed up on the Interested List, you’ll be getting notifications in the new year. If you’ve bought the IR Program and book, you’ll also be getting the details soon.

These holidays are the best time to get out with your family and friends with a camera in hand to record the festivities. If you’re feeling sleepy after that turkey dinner, take a walk, take your camera.

Face the facts

Normally I find Facebook to be a collosal time sink. Sure you can promote your business there, IF you know what you’re doing, but mostly you read about the daily goings on in your friends lives which can be very eye opening, but most of the time it’s not. Better HDR Photography

HDR (high dynamic range) photography has kinda run its course as a trend – I think the effect was so obvious that it lost its lustre pretty fast. I’ve heard so many people groan, “Oh no not another HDR image!” whenever they see the distinctive and obvious HDR look.

And I agree – to a point. HDR can be done with great effect, though, when it’s not totally overdone, like we see most of the time these days.
